T20 Mumbai meeting was successfully held on June 13th 2016

 

The Think-20 entitled “T20 meeting: Global Economic Governance” had be held in Mumbai on Monday, June 13, 2016. This meeting was co-organized by Gateway House, Ministry of External Affairs Government of India, Institute of World Economics and Politics, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (IWEP), Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS), Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies, Renmin University of China (RDCY). The main coordinators of this meeting were Akshay Muther from Gateway House and Huang Wei from IWEP. Other colleagues from Gateway House made a lot of contribution for the meeting as well.

More than 100 participants from eleven countries attended the meeting. Director and Co-Founder of Gateway House Ambassador Neelam Deo, Deputy Director of IWEP Zhou Zhibo, Charge D`affaires of Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to India H.E. Liu Jinsong gave opening remarks on the meeting. Dr. Arvind Panagariya, G20 Sherpa of India, Vice-Chairman of the NITI Aayog, delivered the keynote speech in the keynote session. He commented on the significance of China’s G20 Presidency for 2016, discussed India’s role in the G20, and emphasized that the T20 can really be helpful to shape the G20 Agenda. This keynote session was followed by a series of close door round-table discussions between distinguished invitees from think-tanks around the world.

The following meeting was comprised of four roundtable discussions, which were: Roundtable 1 global macroeconomic governance; Roundtable 2 global commodity and financial markets; Roundtable 3 sustainable infrastructure development; Roundtable 4 trade and investment. In each session, the time of discussion had been managed strictly. Around thirty-five experts and scholars from India, Canada, China, Germany, South Korea, the U.S., Turkey and IOs had given their speeches. After the all 4 roundtable discussion, Mr. Alok Dimri, Joint Secretary of Multilateral Economic Relations, Ministry of External Affairs, government of India made the closing remark.


Wang Wen (Executive Dean of RDCY), Huang Wei (director of global governance department of IWEP), Zhang Haibin (Executive Director, Institute for World Economy Studies, SIIS) and Liu Zongyi (SIIS) made speech in the roundtable discussion.
