Senior Fellow Guo Changlin of Taihe Institute on The Three China-U.S. Joint Communiqués and the Taiwan Relations Act
On September 9, 2021, the 15th World Economic and Political Bi-weekly Forum was held at the Institute of World Economics and Politics. Guo Changlin, Senior Fellow of Taihe Institute, gave a lecture entitled The Devil is Always in the Details based on the analysis of the Three China-U.S. Joint Communiqués and the Taiwan Relations Act. Senior Fellow Zou Zhibo, deputy director of IWEP, presided over the speech. Senior Fellow Wang Jian from the Institute of Modern History participated as discussant via internet.
After comparison of the items of the Three China-U.S. Joint Communiqués, the Taiwan Relations Act, the Taiwan Travel Act and other documents, Guo Changlin examined the textual consensus and disagreements between China and the U.S., and concluded that the bottom-line interests of the U.S. was hidden in the details of the items. He then elaborated on how to understand the latest development of Taiwan issue via the lens of China-U.S. relations. After the presentation, Wang Jian commented on the changes in China-U.S. relations and U.S.-Taiwan relations. At the end of the lecture, Guo Changlin interacted with the audience.
