New NATO in a new world

  Author: GAO Hua

Summary:

Around the beginning of the 1990s, the Cold War came to an end with drastic political transition in Eastern Europe, the Warsaw Pact disbanded, and the Soviet Union collapsed. However, the North  Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), which was established during the Cold War against the Soviet Union, did not dissolve together with its former adversaries. Through reform and expansion with  new member countries in eastern and southern Europe, NATO made a successful transformation from a regional military alliance to a United States-Ied global security-political alliance With the expansion of its members, missions and geographical coverage, NATO plays an important  role in today's global political arena. This book aims to make an objective, detailed and in-depth  analysis of enormous changes that happened to NATO, to examine the reasons for the changes and  its impact on the international security landscape,  and to project a panoramic view on the theoretical  basis of NATO's transformation, NATO and US  alliance strategy, NATO's involvement in several  out-of-area conflicts, NATO's relations with UN, Russia, European security structure and China, and the challenges faced by NATO and its prospects. It outlines NATO's transformation. It is  the first book of its kind in China that presents a comprehensive and systematic study of NATO since the end of the Cold War.
